TCG.SHAANXI in Dialogue with World Tourism Alliance: Seeking Poverty Alleviation through Tourism Development in Shaanxi

The WTA Annual Meeting and WTA • Xianghu Dialogue, with the theme of "Poverty Alleviation and Development, Shared Responsibility of World Tourism Community",  were held in Hangzhou on September 8 and 9. Ren Gongzheng, General Manager of TCG.SHAANXI, made a keynote speech on the practical exploration of poverty alleviation and development through tourism.

Ren Gongzheng pointed out that TCG.SHAANXI, established in 1998, was one of the first batch of provincial-level tourism group companies in China. In recent years, TCG.SHAANXI has leveraged its advantages, adhered to the principle of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and developed an integrated value chain through constantly exploring and tapping new business sectors. Under the auspices of the Belt and Road Initiative, TCG.SHAANXI has expanded its operations beyond Shaanxi into national and global markets, actively pursued its mission of cultural preservation and transmission, and fulfilled its social responsibility as a state-owned enterprise.

In the promotion of poverty alleviation through tourism, TCG.SHAANXI has initiated projects that prioritized poverty reduction and provided designated assistance. "Mountain Flower Project" and "Action Trunk" are innovative models of poverty alleviation through tourism that have benefited tens of thousands of people by providing tourism business skills training for locals and tangible support for the development of the rural tourism economy.

“The township hotel project we developed in Xunyi, Xianyang, Shaanxi upgraded traditional agriculture to a leisure tourism experience, and contributed to the efforts of poverty alleviation,” Ren Gongzheng said.

"Tourism for Poverty Alleviation: World Tourism Development Report 2018" and "WTA Best Practice in Poverty Alleviation through Tourism" were released during the meeting. The World Tourism Alliance also issued membership certificates to TCG.SHAANXI and other entities. (Kevin)
