Huashan Mountain, formerly known as "Xiyue" and referred to as "Taihua Mountain" in ancient literary works, is one of China's five sacred Taoist mountains. Huashan is located in Huayin City, Weinan, Shaanxi province, 120 kilometers east of Xi'an. With the Yellow River to the north and Qinling Mountain Range at the back to the south, the Huashan Mountain has been referred to as the “death hike” since ancient times due to its sheer precipitousness.

Huashan is regarded as the holy mountain of the Chinese nation. According to Zhang Taiyan, a master of classical Chinese studies in the Qing Dynasty, and other experts and scholars from past dynasties, the Chinese nation was initially formed and its people resided in the surrounding area of the Huashan Mountain. The land where the Chinese people resided at the time was referred to as “Hua”, and later they resettled and spread to other parts of the country. “Hua”, meaning Chinese in mandarin, originated from the reference to the mountain and Huashan has thus become known as the "genesis of China."
