The protagonist of this episode is Zhou Shaokang, a young scholar from Kazakhstan. He is studying for the PhD of economics in the University of International Business and Economics. He is a fluent Mandarin speaker. Zhou was born in Russia, grew up in Kazakhstan and is now studying in China. He believes that the Belt and Road Initiative has provided new opportunities of development for Russia, Kazakhstan and the other countries along the Silk Road.

Zhou said, "There are some good projects in Kazakhstan but they lack expertise and equipment. Thus they are yet to be implemented. China could offer help and set them going forward. We have witnessed a great many successful examples, especially in Central Asian and African countries."

Zhou has been living in China for more than 10 years, witnessing the comprehensive development of China. He deems that it is because China has sophisticated technologies, good things to share and a booming economy that it has brought up the Belt and Road Initiative.

As an expert of the Association of Sino-Russian Economic Universities and foreign guest in Lao-wai Viewpoint of CRI NewsRadio, Zhou is also devoted to promoting academic exchanges and cultural communication between China and Russia. He is willing to do his part in enhancing the mutual development of China and other countries apart from Russia and Kazakhstan.

Zhou said, "The Belt and Road Initiative shows the direction for China in the new era. The train of the initiative has already set out and I am ready to go on board, taking others, together with China, to the new era, to the bright future."
