China’s 1st Hospital-run Research Institute for AI in Medicine Established in Shaanxi

The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University has inaugurated China’s first research institute for artificial intelligence in medicine operated by a medical institution.

The new institute, set to partner with the Xi’an Jiaotong University Big Data Algorithm & Analytics National Engineering Lab and the Research Center for the Belt and Road Healthcare Policy and Technology Assessment, aims to create new concepts, new technologies and new methods for “smart healthcare” and innovate a set of clinical solutions and new service management systems that integrate medicine, engineering and management as well as production, teaching, research and application.  It will also develop a regional medical care information platform amid the efforts to build the hospital into a new hub for artificial intelligence in medicine.

Officials with the institute said they will utilize their academic advantage in combining medicine, engineering and management to yield more high quality research results, promote their application and improve medical services at the community level while striving to increase the hospital’s academic influence and service capability.
