China's first test-tube baby to receive a liver transplant from a relative was released from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University on February 14, 2019.
Nan Nan had suffered from jaundice and undergone nearly all possible check-ups, treatments and surgeries. But her conditions never improved, showing symptoms of recurrent jaundice of fluctuating intensity and itching all over the body, leaving her parents in grief. Her mother even wanted to exchange her life for her daughter's health.
On January 23, 2019, operations started on Nan Nan and her mother at the same time. The 6-month-old girl had her liver removed and received healthy liver tissues from her mother.

But even a successful surgery was not enough to ensure her survival. Nan Nan left the hospital only after receiving three more weeks of post-surgery intensive care. And her release marks China's first successful liver transplant from a relative on a test-tube infant.
