It was in December, 2018 when Gianarrigo Rona had field visit to Wuhan for holding the championships. Wuhan was favored by WBF because of its rich experience in hosting bridge tournaments, convenient transport, well-equipped service system, strong atmosphere of bridge games, long history, rich culture, and strong support from all circles. After discussion, Wuhan was eventually selected as the host city of the championships. In addition, it is also the third time for China to hold the World Bridge Team Championships after Beijing championships in 1995 and Shanghai championships in 2007.

The World Bridge Team Championships, founded in 1950, is held biennially in the odd-numbered years, including the Bermuda Bowl, the Venice Cup, the d'Orsi Senior Bowl and newly added Mixed National teams for this session.

The 44th World Bridge Team Championships and the 12th World Transnational Open Team will be held at Wuhan International Convention Center in Wuhan, Hubei from March 14 to September 28. With great reputation and influence, World Bridge Team Championships will attract fans around the world and give new and fresh impetus to this historical city.
