Harbin Institute of Technology Aims to Help Revitalize Heilongjiang by Developing Itself into a World-class University

During the two sessions of China National Congress this year, Zhou Yu, President of Harbin Institute of Technology, shared his ideas on various topics during his interview with CRI Online, such as “Accelerating the pace towards a world-class university and promoting the comprehensive revitalization of Heilongjiang Province”.

According to Zhou Yu, talent training, scientific research, community service and cultural inheritance constitute the basic functions of modern universities. Talent training, in particular, remains the top priority for any university. Just recently, China's top science award was granted to Liu Yongtan from the Harbin Institute of Technology, who is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). This is not only a recognition of the hard work of Academician Liu, but also fully demonstrates the essence of Harbin Institute of Technology in developing virtuous talents.

It is also the top concern of Zhou Yu as to how to promote economic revitalization in Heilongjiang Province with scientific and technological innovation. Zhou Yu reiterated that Harbin Institute of Technology must shoulder the mission of “serving as the primary driving force of technological innovation in Heilongjiang”. He pointed out that besides teaching students in classrooms, universities shall also focus more on cultivating students' thinking ability, especially that of innovation and entrepreneurship. The innovation and entrepreneurship parks established by Harbin Institute of Technology are designed to attract more young talents with innovative and entrepreneurial ambition to make their contribution to Heilongjiang.
