The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University has successfully adopted a robot, named "Sky Eye", to conduct High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) recently.

At present, China gradually enters an aging society. Osteoarthritis (OA) has met its high occurrence season, and become a major disability-causing disease. In the past, patients received palliative care when they were in the early stages of gonitis, but such treatment was ineffective. Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) would be conducted in the final stages. However, it's difficult to carry out a TKA for the high-risk surgery requiring sophisticated skills.

With the development of orthopedic surgery and medical instruments in recent years, stepwise surgical treatment in arthritis became possible. Most patients can maintain their inborn, natural and painless knees.

Sky Eye, the surgical robot introduced by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, has helped surgeons and patients to have a more accurate preoperative plan, a more exact intraoperative performance and a preferred postoperative result in a minimally invasive TKA. The successful robot-assisted HTO has realized mutual complementarity of surgical robots and 3D printing technology, made coexistence of accuracy and individualization, and brought more high-quality, efficient and advanced health care services to patients.
