The First People's Hospital of Shangqiu City, Henan, China, Created A New Path of Heritage Conservation

In the afternoon of June 18, the sun was baking eastern Henan. There are several buildings marked with "historic" title in the First People’s Hospital of Shangqiu City, Henan, China, and a small garden with so many trees, grass and cypresses is in front of the buildings. An old man was walking in the garden to enjoy the scenery.

It is said that the predecessor of the First People’s Hospital of Shangqiu City is St. Paul's Hospital, which was established in 1912. Several ancient buildings left behind in the early years of the hospital's construction. Because of its long history and cultural connotation, the Henan Provincial People's Government classified these buildings as a provincial key cultural relic protection unit in 1963. Although the exterior of these ancient buildings looks a little bit aged, they are still in normal use today, with some staff working in it.

In 2009, the First People's Hospital of Shangqiu City prepared to build a hospital history museum, which is open to the public every morning from Monday to Saturday, with regular maintenance. It briefly shows the glorious history of the hospital's hundred-year development. Since the opening of the hospital history museum, it has been widely praised by the society.

Now, the First People's Hospital of Shangqiu City relies on the protection and renovation of several ancient buildings, it created a "four in one" hospital scenery (harden, green, beautify and lighten). The hospital is evergreen, the existing green coverage area of it is over 35%, providing a more comfortable treatment environment for patients.
