Wulipo, Chongqing Becomes a World Natural Heritage Site

On July 28, 2021, the 44th World Heritage Committee deliberated and approved the boundary modification proposal for Shennongjia World Heritage Site. Chongqing Wulipo was thus incorporated into the World Natural Heritage Site. Both Wulipo and Shennongjia World Heritage Sites belong to Daba Mountain Arc. The joint between them acts as an important passage for the reproduction of a great many species. To improve the international recognition of Wulipo Reserve and enhance the integrity of Shennongjia World Heritage Site, Wushan County has worked out the World Natural Heritage Site application proposal for Wulipo.

It is known that Wulipo Reserve, located in the northeast of Wushan County, Chongqing, with a total area of about 35,000 hectares, involves 7 vegetation types, 32 formation groups, 59 formations, 3,000 hectares of primitive forests, 300 hectares of native subalpine meadows and 26.6 hectares of rare amentotaxus argotaenia community. Currently, 3001 varieties of vascular plants and 447 terrestrial vertebrates have been discovered in the reserve that is known as the "Natural Museum".
