Tonglu, Hangzhou: All-round Improvement in the Environmental Quality of the Host City of Asian Games

Recently, new changes have been made in the greenery and landscape at the entrance of the Legend Hotel in Tonglu county, Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province. The chic flowerbeds are matched with flowers in coordinating colors, making the hotel more attractive. Newly-planted green plants have created a new layer to the whole landscape, highlighting the ecological conservation of the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. The surrounding roads for commute and barrier-free facilities have been upgraded to build an accessible circulation. After the renovation, the surrounding scenery of the hotel has been revitalized, full of elements of Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.

Adopting a three-dimensional transformation, the environmental quality improvement covers the facades of buildings surrounding the hotel from a distant view. "We have cleaned and whitewashed the facades of the buildings, renovated and upgraded the awnings and drying racks of the surrounding buildings, and managed the billboards set up in a disorderly manner," said Fang Guodong, a staff member of the task force of urban environmental quality initiative[41]  in Tonglu.

Tonglu County has improved and launched the "Beautiful Hangzhou Welcomes the Asian Games"—Implementation Action of Urban Environmental Quality Improvement Initiative in Tonglu County,[42]  and pushed itself to outline a total of 47 major projects in nine categories such as the commuter routes for the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 and urban roads improvement, on the basis of seven municipal key tasks. Meanwhile, Tonglu County invited China Academy of Art, Tongji University, Zhejiang Urban Construction Planning and Design Institute and other well-known design teams, to carry out the design of important landscape and nodes such as the Tonglu highway entrance and the night lighting of core areas along Fuchun River, building a modern version of "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains".

It is reported that among 47 projects in nine categories of the Urban Environmental Quality Improvement Initiative[43]  in Tonglu County, 45 projects have been under construction, of which 33 projects have completed more than half of the overall image, and the Shen'ao highway entrance has been upgraded.
