Pengshui, Chongqing: Wujiang Waterway Fully Reopens for Sailing

Wujiang River originates in Guizhou, China, flows through northern Guizhou and southeastern Chongqing, and injects into the Yangtze River in Fuling, Chongqing. With its 1,037-kilometer-long main stream, the river is one of the eight principal tributaries of the Yangtze River. After 2003, due to the construction of cascade hydropower stations, this "golden waterway" was temporarily suspended. In 2021, the entire Wujiang waterway, after having been interrupted for nearly 20 years, reopened for sailing for the first time on a large scale, leading to the re-emergence of the prosperous scene of the old "Golden Waterway".

Since the large-scale reopening of the entire Wujiang waterway in 2021, as an achievement of Pengshui Hydropower Station Navigation Project, the number of vessels passing through the station has increased from two to three to an average of more than 30 per month, and the volume has increased by more than 10 times, effectively contributing to the economic and social development of the basin.
