WIC "AI for Social Good" Program officially launched

On June 26, the Launch Ceremony of the WIC "AI for Social Good" commenced in Qufu, Jining, Shandong Province, calling on all parties to unite their intelligence and build consensus for jointly contributing to the progress in the ethics-based development of artificial intelligence (AI) and, consequentially, the greater wellbeing of countries and regions around the world, which are at different levels of development. The World Internet Conference AI for Social Good Action Plan (2023 - 2025) was released during the ceremony.

Yang Changhua, General Manager of Public and Legal Affairs of Greater China Region, Microsoft, shared the company's practices of helping people with disabilities close the digital divide through speech synthesis technologies. Liu Zhouhong, Deputy Secretary General of Tencent Charity Foundation, elaborated on how AI-relevant technologies can be applied to the protection of snow leopards, and the company's Light Public Good Innovation Challenge. Michael Campbell, Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua to China, introduced during the ceremony the AI-powered public welfare practices in the fields of medical care, education, and more of Nicaragua. Danilo Casertano, President of Associazione Manes, shed light on how AI can serve as a great aid to public wellness, especially the benefits it can bring to education.

It is learned that the program has collected 33 projects from 23 enterprises and other organizations and institutions in its preliminary stage. Moving forward, the World Internet Conference (WIC) will actively promote the philosophy and vision of the program and implement the three-year plan for the future, to foster an era in which AI-relevant technologies are used for mutually beneficial purposes, characterized by inclusiveness, openness, and sharing.
