Weinan Sports Center Completes Football Pitch Upgrading

With 8,000 square meters of turfs installed, Weinan Sports Center Stadium will be ready for football matches in 10-20 days after a period for grass growth and maintenance.

During an interview with CRI Online Shaanxi Channel on April 9, Song Baojun, Deputy Director of the sports center, said with the facelift, the stadium, the home of Chang’an Athletic Football Club during the 2019 China League, has taken a significant step in the preparation for the U-18 women’s football tournament of the 14th National Games of China, which is scheduled for later this year.

To ensure the performance of players and audience experience, Weinan Sports Center Stadium chose turfs that meet the technical requirements of GB/T19995.1—2005, China’s national standard for class-1 natural turf for football. Each turf is ≥12m in length, ≥1m in width and 18mm-20mm in thickness with grass heights ranging between 25 and 40 mm.

According to Song Baojun, in addition to football pitch upgrading, the renovations of the lighting system, function rooms, outdoor environment and accessory facilities are also proceeding in an orderly manner and all projects are expected to be completed by June 30 as planned under the standards that meet all requirements for hosting the 14th National Games and can ensure matches go smoothly.

Meanwhile, the city is also aiming to take advantage of hosting the events of the National Games to further improve local sports infrastructures. Guo Jun, Deputy Director of Weinan Municipal Bureau of Sports, says the city, in the next step, will build at least three sports-themed parks, 30 community exercise playgrounds and 5 community fitness centers, include all rural residents in the national fitness program for peasants and step up the construction of a “15-minute fitness circle.”

The city is also to accelerate the construction of county-level sports facilities, make full use of high-level sports venues in Huayin, Heyang, Dali and Pucheng counties and apply to host more mass sports events of the National Games.
