On July 20, the 5th Majiayao Cultural Festival opened in Lintao County, Dingxi City, Gansu Province. Themed on “The World’s Majiayao and Majiayao’s World,” the cultural festival is intended to deeply explore, inherit and promote Majiayao Culture.
During the festival, Lintao County enabled the ancient Majiayao Culture to transcend space and time as well as show unique charm in the new era by holding 12 specific events, including theatrical performances, the opening ceremony, Academic Forum on Majiayao Culture, observation and learning activities, Youth Pottery Competition and Art Exhibition, Exhibition on Archaeological Achievements at Majiayao Site, “Yantian Wenxin” Art Exhibition on Fine Tao Inkstones and Rubbings and the third China · Lintao Stone Appreciation Culture Month.
As a shining pearl in the development of human civilizations spanning a long time, Majiayao Culture was named after Majiayao Village of Lintao County where it was discovered for the first time in the 1920s. Majiayao Culture dates back more than 5,000 years to the middle and late Neolithic periods, with the richest, the most widely distributed and representative findings of the period in Gansu. As a precious cultural treasure of Gansu, China and even the globe, Majiayao Culture is famed as “Gansu’s Yangshao Culture” and considered by the academia as valuable as Dunhuang Culture.
