Sichuan's Water Governance Achievements Showcased at the 18th World Water Congress

Recently, the 18th World Water Congress was held in Beijing, with the theme of "Water for All: Harmony between Humans and Nature". The congress provided an international platform for water resources exchange and cooperation, promoting global understanding of cutting-edge water science and technology and the construction of global water governance systems.

Sichuan Province, known as the "province of one thousand rivers", is a major water and hydropower resource province. On the opening day of the conference, Sichuan held two special sessions titled "Precious Water Forever: Practice and Inspiration of Eco-friendly Water Conservancy" and "Efficient Utilization and Protection of Water (Scenery) Resources in the Yalong River Basin", showcasing and promoting Sichuan's representative water governance practices and achievements from ancient times to the present to the world's guests.

The Yalong River is the largest tributary of the Jinsha River, with abundant water resources, concentrated drops and superior indicators. The basin has a potential installed capacity of about 30 million kilowatts, ranking third among China's 13 major hydropower bases, and is an important part of Sichuan's hydropower bases of three rivers of Jinsha River, Yalong River, Dadu River.

The Dujiangyan Irrigation System has a history of 2,279 years and is a comprehensive water conservancy project integrating irrigation, flood control, drainage, ecology, production, and urban water supply. Dujiangyan is not only a monument in China's water conservancy history and cultural history but also a miracle in human civilization history. It has been listed in the World Cultural Heritage and the World's Heritage Irrigation Structures lists. For more than 2,000 years, Dujiangyan Irrigation System has followed the water governance concept of "following the rules of nature and guided by the local situations", and has continued to develop and innovate, giving birth to the the land of abundance for no hunger and thirst with water and drought.
