The 32nd World Hakka Conference Opened in Longnan, Jiangxi Province

On the evening of November 7, the 32nd World Hakka Conference opened in the sports center of Longnan City, Jiangxi Province. About 2,500 Hakka folks from around the world gathered here to share the cultural feast.

The event site

The World Hakka Conference is one of the most influential grand meetings for Chinese people in the world and is an important stage for Hakka folks at home and abroad to keep up a friendship, establish economic and trade cooperation, and make cultural exchanges. With the theme "Hakka accents evoke homesickness wherever Hakka people are in the world”, the event utilizes technological means to present a variety of art forms such as song, dance, folklore, Hakka music, Hakka intangible cultural heritage, and so on in an innovative way.

The dragon boat drum dance and the scenario narration program Ke Cong He Lai (客从何来) elaborate the origin of the dependence and development on each other of the global Hakka people; the situation song Ke Tu Wei Jia (客途为家) and the intangible cultural heritage scenario performance Qian Xi Nan Du (迁徙南渡), Wei Wu Zhi Ge (围屋之歌), An Jia Xi Niang (安家喜酿) draw the audience's mind back to a thousand years ago and demonstrate the scenario of the Hakka people’s history of development.

In the interactive light and shadow performance Ju Long Teng Fei (巨龙腾飞), the leaping upward posture is the epitome of the struggle ahead of the Hakka youth, as well as a perfect display of strength and beauty. The combination of a naked-eye 3D visual effect and a virtual image integrates Hakka symbols with contemporary vision, international perspective with the Gannan story, and shows the image of the new Ganzhou to the world.

“The opening ceremony for the World Hakka Conference is perfect, fully demonstrating the cultural concept and spirit of ‘Hakka accent evoke homesickness wherever Hakka people are in the world’, as well as the Hakka’s civilization of a thousand years.” A citizen, Li Sha, said the opening ceremony is an audio-visual feast.
