Xinjiang's First 750 kV UHV Transmission Project across Desert Railway Fully Completed

On August 28, the 383-meter conductor between towers 1L008 and 1L009 of the Bazhou-Tieganlike-Ruoqiang 750 kV transmission line project successfully crossed the Southern Xinjiang Railway, marking the completion of the entire project. With this, the main construction tasks are fully finished, and the project has entered the countdown to commissioning. It is also Xinjiang's first 750 kV ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission project across a desert railway.

The project spans from the Bazhou 750 kV substation to the Ruoqiang 750 kV substation, passing through Yanqi Hui Autonomous County, Bohu County, Korla City, Yuli County, the Second Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and Ruoqiang County. With a dynamic investment of CNY 4.616 billion, the project involves the construction of a new 750 kV line stretching 880 kilometers and the installation of 1,873 towers. Construction began on March 25, 2023, and the project is scheduled for completion and commissioning by November 2024.

Once the project is put into operation, it will connect with the operational Kuqa-Aksu-Bachu, Bachu-Kashgar, and Bachu-Shache-Hotan 750 kV transmission projects, as well as the under-construction Hotan-Minfeng-Qiemo-Ruoqiang 750 kV transmission project, forming a 750 kV large ring network around the Tarim Basin. This large ring network will further optimize the main grid structure in southern Xinjiang, significantly enhance the capacity for integrating and transmitting new energy sources such as photovoltaics in southern Xinjiang, and form a 750 kV hub-type backbone grid pattern of "connecting north to south, extending west to east," effectively supporting the construction of the third AC and fourth DC external transmission channels in Xinjiang.

According to statistics, Xinjiang now has 28 substations at 750 kV with a total transformation capacity of 815.04 million kVA, and 80 lines at 750 kV with a length of 10,165.19 kilometers.
