On September 15, the 'East Meets West: Tasting Tea and Coffee Together' - 'Colour Tea&Coffee' Culture Exchange Activity kicked off at Hall 10 of Shougang Park.

As a key cultural exchange activity of the Ninth Colourful World—Cultural Exhibition of Countries along the Belt and Road, the event used tea and coffee as two major cultural elements to invite diplomats from Sri Lanka, Bolivia, Sudan and other countries to China to promote their tea, coffee and culture. Experts in Chinese tea culture and coffee aficionados also engaged in a lively discussion on tea and coffee cultures.

At the event, Yu Yingjie, Secretary General of the Tea Beverage & Coffee Professional Committee and Director of the External Liaison and Cooperation Department of China Tea Marketing Association, and Wei Hanye, a coffee aficionado, shared their views on the integrated development trend of tea and coffee. Yu noted that tea and coffee have played an increasingly important role in domestic beverage consumption. A variety of new tea drinks have been rolled out and gained popularity, giving a further boost to the innovative development of Chinese tea culture. Besides, MIXUE Ice Cream & Tea, CHAGEE and other new-style Chinese tea brands are continuing to expand overseas, which can constantly contribute to the widespread dissemination of Chinese tea culture.

Kanahalage Deepani Nalika Kodikara, Minister-Counselor for Commercial Affairs of the Embassy of Sri Lanka to China, promoting Ceylon black tea

During the event, Kanahalage Deepani Nalika Kodikara, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to China, introduced the growing environment, harvesting processes, and production techniques of Ceylon tea, and invited Chinese people to visit Sri Lanka and taste Ceylon black tea. She also expressed that it was an innovative idea to use tea and coffee as media to promote cultural exchange and such activities can facilitate the interaction of diverse cultural perspectives.
