In the golden autumn season, the fields are brimming with abundant great achievements. Recently, tens of thousands of mu of potatoes in Haiyuan County, Zhongwei City, have reached peak yield, creating a bustling scene across the fields. To meet the increased seasonal electricity demand, the State Grid Zhongwei Power Supply Company has launched a special power-supply service for autumn harvest, working diligently to ensure the smooth implementation of the harvest.
In recent years, to keep in line with the rural revitalization strategy, Haiyuan County has prioritized the potato industry as one of its four key specialized sectors. This initiative has paved the way for high-quality development of the potato sector. In 2024, the potato planting area in Haiyuan County reaches 252,000 mu (approximately 16,800 hectares), with a projected total yield of 302,400 tons and an estimated output value of 544 million yuan. As the potato industry continues to upgrade and expand, the demand for electricity has steadily increased. To ensure the smooth development of this local specialty industry, the company has coordinated the government in advance to understand the electricity load distribution in areas with growing potato production. Combined with urban and rural power grid upgrades, measures such as optimizing the grid structure, adding new distribution points in the area as well as extending and renovating low-voltage lines are taken to ensure that industrial projects are built wherever there is sufficient power supply. In recent years, a total of 22.57 kilometers of 10 kV transmission lines, 52.12 kilometers of low-voltage transmission lines, and 37 transformers have been installed to fully meet the load access requirements of the potato industry and siginificantly enhance the rural power supply capacity.
At the same time, as mechanized production and advanced processing in the industry continue to expand, power services are constantly upgrading. In advance, line inspections are carried out at key nodes such as potato planting and processing to identify and address potential issues and assistance is provided to farmers for checking irrigation and drainage equipment. Power services for production and processing enterprises have been strengthened, streamlining the application process, opening express service channels, and enhancing service efficiency. Regular on-site visits are conducted to provide guidance on electricity use, distribute convenient service cards, and ensure that any electricity-related issues are resolved promptly. These efforts support the rapid growth of the potato industry chain in Haiyuan and contribute to increased yields and incomes for local farmers.(By Liu Jiao and Zhu Changxu)
