As the Qingming Festival approaches, the Transmission & Distribution Inspection Branch of State Grid Xiangyang Power Supply Company has formed a specialized wildfire prevention task force. Equipped with drones and firefighting equipment, this task force conducts targeted patrols in key wildfire-prone areas. These proactive efforts focus on thoroughly investigating and eliminating potential wildfire hazards within transmission line corridors and ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power grid.

The company adopts a novel wildfire prevention model that integrates "manual patrols, centralized monitoring, and multi-dimensional inspections." They have established 16 specialized prevention teams, comprising 135 personnel, to implement "daily double patrols" in high-risk areas such as spring plowing zones, burning zones, and sacrificial sites. Simultaneously, they are conducting flammable material clearing, safety awareness campaigns, and 24-hour on-duty monitoring to ensure early detection and prompt handling of potential hazards. Furthermore, the company has deployed 46 drones and 3,139 sets of monitoring devices, integrated with an AI-powered intelligent recognition system, to enhance wildfire investigation efficiency by more than tenfold. Bie Qingsong, Deputy General Manager of the Transmission & Distribution Inspection Branch of State Grid Xiangyang Power Supply Company, stated that the Transmission Monitoring Center updates images of key areas every 15 minutes and utilizes an intelligent defect recognition system for real-time early warnings, creating a dense, three-dimensional protective network.
To date, 37 wildfire hazard points along Xiangyang power grid's 220kV and above lines have been dynamically documented, with flame-retardant treatment completed at 10 of these locations. “Combining traditional experience with new technologies is crucial for effective wildfire prevention,” stated an official from State Grid Xiangyang Power Supply Company.
