Recently, the Jinta-Yumen 750kV power transmission line was completed, becoming Gansu Province's first 750kV line project to reach completion in 2025. Once operational, it will better meet the power demands for new energy transmission in the western region and social development. It will support and ensure the grid connection, consumption, and outward transmission of new energy from large-scale wind and photovoltaic (PV) power bases located in desert, Gobi, and wilderness areas. It will also lay a solid foundation for the follow-up construction of the "Gansu-to-Sichuan" ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission project.
Jinta-Yumen 750kV Transmission Line Project
The Jinta-Yumen 750kV transmission line project is a key provincial energy infrastructure initiative under Gansu's 14th Five-Year Plan. It connects Jinta County, Suzhou District, and Yumen City in Jiuquan, Gansu, with a total length of 246.743 km and includes 532 newly built transmission tower foundations.
As the westernmost 750kV transmission line project constructed in Gansu Province, the route traverses complex terrain dominated by desert and Gobi landscapes. Extreme weather conditions are frequent, posing significant construction challenges. The line also crosses three ultra-high-voltage DC lines—namely, the Changji–Guquan, Tianshan–Zhongzhou (Gansu section), and Qilian–Shaoshan lines—as well as key transportation infrastructures including the Jiuquan–Ejin and Jiayuguan–Ceke railways.
Since construction began, State Grid Gansu Electric Power Co., Ltd. has intensified technological innovation, marking the first experimental research and engineering application of spiral anchor foundations for ultra-high-voltage lines in desert, Gobi, and wilderness areas. Through this major infrastructure project, the company has cultivated a highly skilled young management team while accumulating valuable experience in building model power grid projects that are "safe and reliable, quality-assured, legally compliant, eco-friendly, and industry-leading."(Text/picture by Jing Mingming, Li Yuanhao, and Qiao Xinbo)
