India’s smartphone manufacturing industry is suffering from a heavy-handed dose of "America First." Donald Trump recently floated the idea of slapping a 25% tariff—at the minimum—on all mobile phones not made in the United States, starting as early as the end of June 2025. In addition, he specifically called on Apple and Samsung to shift their production lines back to American soil. Foreign media warn that the move could deal a serious blow to India’s grand ambition of becoming the world’s smartphone manufacturing center.
