Opening Ceremony of 2025 Lanzhou University International Summer Program Held

At 8:00 a.m. on July 14, the opening ceremony of the 2025 Lanzhou University International Summer Program (LZU-ISP) was held at Guochang Lecture Hall in the West District of Chengguan Campus. The international exchange event brought together students and scholars from 21 countries, representatives from relevant departments of Gansu Province, and LZU students and faculty members.

Themed “Hexi Corridor: A Geographic Epic & Future Imagination,” the 2025 LZU-ISP continues its signature approach of “walking, observing, and learning.” Over the course of 13 days, participants will explore local history and the richness of its civilization through a variety of engaging activities. With content ranging from themed lectures and cultural exchanges to field trips and hands-on exploration, the program aims to build a platform for academic and cultural exchange between Chinese and international participants. It also strives to deepen global educational cooperation, foster understanding and friendship among international youth, and promote shared growth through collaboration.

LZU's Vice President Wang Wei delivers a speech

At the beginning of the opening ceremony, LZU Vice President Wang Wei delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of the university, he warmly welcomed participants from around the world. Wang introduced this year’s summer program, themed “Hexi Corridor: A Geographic Epic & Future Imagination.” Over the next 13 days, participants will depart from Lanzhou and journey through the Hexi Corridor, exploring local history and experiencing the richness of its civilization through lectures, group discussions, and various activities.

Next, Liang Baoping, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Gansu Province, addressed the audience. He noted that as a key university participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, Lanzhou University has long been committed to promoting international youth exchanges. He praised the summer program for offering an effective platform for intercultural dialogue and encouraged participants to immerse themselves in Chinese culture and the stunning landscapes of northwestern China, becoming bridges and ambassadors for China-Europe cooperation and global friendship.

Bai Jiangping, Deputy Director of the Gansu Provincial Department of Education, also delivered remarks. He emphasized that this year’s summer program features rich content, including academic courses and volunteer service projects. He encouraged students to open their hearts, build understanding, deepen friendships, and grow together through cooperation.

In addition, international student representatives took the stage at the “New Voice of the Silk Road: International Youth Forum” to share their hopes and reflections on cultural exchange. A series of ceremonial activities followed, including the “Key to LZU: Campus Identity Ceremony,” the “Cultural Ambassador and Outstanding Volunteer Awards,” and the “Camp Flag Ceremony: Long Wind Explorers.” The ceremony concluded with a group photo session.

After the formal ceremony, participants attended an academic sharing session. Professor Long Ruijun from LZU delivered a lecture titled “The Charm of the Ancient Silk Road.” Reza, a 2024 ISP participant and scholar from Princeton University, shared his experiences and reflections, followed by a pre-departure orientation delivered by ISP team leader Feng Zhenlong.

The successful opening ceremony marked the official launch of the 2025 LZU-ISP. This program will further promote mutual understanding and dialogue among international youth, carrying forward the spirit of the Silk Road through learning, friendship, and exploration.(Text by Wei Tingting)
