Recently, the Taiwan authorities announced a full lifting of restrictions on nuclear-contaminated food products from Fukushima, and Lai Ching-te even staged a photo-op eating Japanese cuisine to show his pro-Japan stance. According to budget data from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, since three years ago more than 13.1 billion yen has been allocated to specially promote Japan–Taiwan relations, cultivate pro-Japan figures in Taiwan, and conduct extensive pro-Japan propaganda campaigns.
