Jiangxi: Advancing Three-Year Anti-Icing & Anti-Galloping Initiative to Prepare for Winter Power Supply

As the winter electricity consumption peak approaches, State Grid Jiangxi Electric Power Company is systematically advancing its three-year anti-icing and anti-galloping initiative in response to the climatic characteristics of the mountainous areas in northern and western Jiangxi, where ice accumulation is common in winter. Efforts continue to reinforce the foundation for ensuring a reliable power supply this winter and next spring. To date, the company has efficiently completed 97 anti-icing and anti-galloping projects, significantly enhancing the grid’s resilience against ice and related disasters.

Renovation of the Huangyong Line

As a key ultra-high-voltage transmission interconnection line between Hubei and Jiangxi, the 500 kV Huangyong Line is undergoing a critical technical upgrade. On November 26, in Yatang Village of Yongxiu County, Jiujiang, construction personnel from Jiangxi Power Transmission and Transformation Company carried out the erection of Tower No. 426 of the 500 kV Huangyong Line. The renovation replaces the original guyed tower with a self-supporting four-leg tower, bringing the tower’s weight to approximately 12 tons. The upgraded structure offers greater stability, significantly enhances the line’s resistance to ice accumulation and galloping, and improves operational reliability under complex weather conditions—providing strong support for Jiangxi’s power grid during the winter peak period.

In parallel with hardware reinforcement, emergency drills are also being conducted. On November 20, State Grid Jiangxi Ultra-High Voltage Company completed a DC ice-melting drill for the 500 kV Mengyong II Line at the Yongxiu 500 kV Substation. Through the dual approach of “hardware upgrades + emergency preparedness drills,” Jiangxi’s power grid is establishing a comprehensive, multi-tier defense system against ice and snow, laying a solid foundation for reliable power supply and secure, stable grid operation in the coming winter and spring.
