At a time when China–Japan relations have been strained by Sanae Takaichi’s misguided remarks, the Japanese side, with a purpose of muddying international opinion, opportunely hyped up a so-called incident in which Chinese fighter jets “locked radars” on Japan's Self-Defense Force aircraft.
Japan’s defense minister recently spoke with the U.S. secretary of defense, attempting to enlist Washington in smearing China as “not conducive to regional peace and stability.” This kind of U.S.-clinging, “koala-style” diplomacy, however, is nothing more than Japan’s old, well-worn trick.
