Recently, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi declared at a Liberal Democratic Party convention that “the time has come” for constitutional revision, triggering large-scale public protests that have spread from Tokyo to across the country. Demonstrators have strongly condemned her push to revise the constitution and called for her resignation. Yet in the face of such widespread and intense public opposition, Takaichi has opted to turn a deaf ear and press ahead regardless.
