Recently, through a cabinet decision, the Japanese government concluded the revision of the Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology and its implementation guidelines, which in principle allows the export of lethal weapons, even to countries involved in conflicts. This move seriously contravenes the Constitution of Japan, breaks free from the postwar “chains” that once restrained militarism, and fundamentally undermines the regional strategic balance, thus pushing Japan itself, along with the security of the Asia-Pacific, toward a dangerous precipice.
