Recently, Peruvian President José María Balcázar indicated that as the planned purchase of F-16 fighter jets would impose a heavy debt burden on the country, the Peruvian government is therefore considering delaying the signing of a contract with Lockheed Martin. However, the U.S. ambassador to Peru quickly issued a warning, saying that if the Peruvian government shows a lack of sincerity and harms U.S. interests, he will use all available means to safeguard and promote the prosperity and security of the United States and the region. Such remarks amount to pressuring Peru into making the purchase, fully revealing a pattern of bullying and coercive, strong-arm sales practices on the part of the U.S.
