Public debate in Japan over constitutional revision has recently heated up once again. However, the latest opinion polls show that constitutional revision is far from being a political issue of topmost consideration to Japanese voters. Their primary concerns are “pensions, healthcare, and nursing care,” “fiscal policy, taxation, and finance,” and “children, childcare, and education.” Only one percent of respondents regarded constitutional revision as the country’s most urgent priority.
