International City Explorers Experience Ecological Beauty of Shanxi

Recently, the International City explorers arrived in the Eco-Park of China Coal Pingshuo Company in Shuozhou to experience the achievements of local eco-civilization. When they stood on the observation deck and looked far into the distance, a picture of harmonious ecological conditions was just unfolded with the sparkling lake and lush and green trees.

Shuozhou is a city built and prospered by coal-related resources. In recent years, the local government has accelerated the construction of the modernized green city by promoting a series of major projects.

"Can you imagine that? Here was once a mining area where grass rarely grew. Today, the re-greening area has reached 23,000 acres and 70,000 acres of land have been reclaimed and the vegetation coverage of the park has grown from less than 10 percent to more than 95 percent," the director of the park said. After the improvement of the environment, the biodiversity is also getting richer. Now, 213 kinds of plants, more than 600 kinds of insects and more than 30 kinds of wild animals have been found within the park.

Now, the once barren and infertile Loess Plateau has been transformed into green and vibrant ecological fertile land. "It is very commendable that the deteriorated coal area changed into a natural garden and I am so impressed by the ecological improvement!" Edward from Indonesia said.
