James Cleverly, British secretary of state for foreign, commonwealth and development affairs on Tuesday said that Britain will support Japan's bid to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council. In fact, expanding the number of the permanent members should meet with the approval of all permanent members of the Security Council. Britain knows that the move will not succeed, but it still made a promise, aiming to draw Japan to its side and enhance its own influence. It is just pie in the sky.
