In order to support developing countries in coping with climate change, the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change reached an agreement to establish a "loss and damage" fund. Subsequently, the United Arab Emirates took the lead in making its commitments to pledging 100 million U.S. Dollars with Germany and the UK pledging 100 million U.S. Dollars and 60 million pounds (roughly equals to 75 million U.S. Dollars) respectively. The U. S., which always likes to behave in a high profile on climate issues, has only pledged 17.5 million U.S. Dollars. It failed to make the enough contributions commensurate with its role as the largest economy and the world's largest cumulative emitter of greenhouse gases in history.
