State Grid Shennongjia Holds Environmental Awareness Event for National Ecology Day

SHENNONGJIA, China, August 13, 2024 — State Grid Shennongjia Power Supply Company marked China's third National Ecology Day by organizing environmental awareness activities at the Dalongtan Golden Snub-nosed Monkey Research Base, featuring the company's "Green Power Ark" youth volunteer team.

The volunteer team educated visitors about the company's environmental initiatives, emphasizing how biodiversity protection is integrated throughout power grid construction and operations. Volunteers encouraged public participation in ecological conservation and promoted ecological civilization values among tourists and researchers.

The team subsequently conducted comprehensive inspections of the base's power infrastructure, including supply lines, the solar-battery microgrid system, and intelligent research monitoring equipment. This maintenance ensures reliable power supply for critical research operations while volunteers also cleaned the golden snub-nosed monkeys' habitat areas.

The Dalongtan Research Base's solar-battery microgrid system represents a significant advancement in sustainable energy for conservation efforts. The system ensures uninterrupted power supply for essential equipment including conservation monitoring devices, biodiversity sensors, climate monitoring instruments, and electronic security fencing, significantly improving the base's power reliability.

The renewable energy system generates approximately 30,000 kWh annually through solar power generation, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 29 tons per year. This approach minimizes the research facility's environmental impact on the endangered golden snub-nosed monkeys' natural habitat.

Looking ahead, Shennongjia Company plans to engage young employees in key green development initiatives as part of the broader "E-Power Paragon of Green Development" program—a State Grid initiative promoting sustainable energy practices across China's power sector. These efforts will position youth volunteers as environmental leaders while supporting both regional ecological conservation and the company's sustainable development goals.
