On the afternoon of September 4, the 2nd (Guangzhou) International Expo on New Energy and Digital Technologies for Public Transportation, themed “Digital Innovation for Smart Mobility · Green Energy for Seamless Connectivity”, officially opened at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center. More than 2,000 representatives from research institutions, international organizations, and public transport enterprises gathered to witness a milestone moment in the sector’s green, digital, and intelligent transformation.

The expo adopted a three-pronged model of thematic conferences, exhibitions, and technical tours to comprehensively showcase industry progress. Following the opening ceremony, the 2025 Outstanding Case List of New Energy and Digital Technology Innovation in Urban Public Transport was released, alongside four industry linkage events: the unveiling of a new cooperation platform between the China Urban Public Transport Association and the Research Institute of Guangzhou Public Transport Group; co-construction agreements with Tianjin Public Transport Group, WeRide, Yutong, Geely, and others; a multi-party co-construction signing for the expo itself; and the launch of an international public transport operation service ecosystem. These marked a new stage of industry collaboration and international cooperation.

In the keynote session, Zhou Wei, former Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Transport, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Minister of Transport of Sarawak, Malaysia, together with executives from Yutong New Energy, CRRC Electric, Kaiwo New Energy, and other companies, shared forward-looking perspectives on industry transformation and technological innovation, offering valuable insights for future development.

The two-day event also featured 10 parallel thematic sessions with over 80 specialized reports, covering hot topics such as charging and battery-swapping networks, photovoltaic energy storage, AI large-model applications, autonomous driving, and low-altitude mobility. Concurrently, the Guangzhou Public Transport Group 2025 Science and Technology Innovation Conference and the 23rd UITP Asia-Pacific Conference were held. Nearly 20 international experts contributed in-depth case studies, sharing experiences in technological R&D and industrial application with a global outlook.

On the morning of September 4, participants visited the exhibition hall of Guangzhou First Automobile Bus, the dispatching center of Guangzhou Public Transport Group, and several new energy industrial parks. They also test-rode the autonomous convenience line and the smart bus cultural tourism line, experiencing Guangzhou’s achievements in green and intelligent mobility firsthand. According to Luo Yuwen, a member of Guangzhou Public Transport Group’s autonomous driving project preparation team, the company plans to purchase another 100 autonomous minibuses this year, which will be deployed across “One District and Three Cities” — Nansha District, University Town, and China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City — to scale up applications.

As a global platform bringing together wisdom and cutting-edge technologies, the expo serves not only as a “showcase” for industry achievements but also as a “forum” for innovative ideas. It is set to accelerate the sector’s green transition, digital empowerment, and intelligent upgrade, inject momentum into building a sustainable urban mobility ecosystem, and foster global collaboration across the entire industrial chain, enabling the industry to share opportunities and pursue common development.
