Report by Shaanxi Channel of CRI Online (Liu Honghua): On May 13th, 2018, participants from the “2018 Trip of Rediscovering Shaanxi by Foreign Experts along the Silk Road” paid a visit to the BYD New Energy Industry Base in the Xi'an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone (XHTZ), which has been hailed as a testament to the achievements made by Shaanxi Province in the field of scientific and technological innovation. XHTZ, founded in 1991, has made remarkable progress over the past 27 years. Since the launch of the “Third-stage Entrepreneurship” program in 2017, it has dedicated tremendous resources to developing itself into a world-class science and technology park by further improving its independent innovation capacity, enhancing its global competitive edge and capacity for sustainable and innovation-driven development, upgrading its industries, implementing city-industry integration and encouraging internally-generated development.
In the manufacturing workshop of the BYD New Energy Industry Base, all operations including punching, welding, painting and final assembly are carried out in an efficient and orderly manner. The foreign experts expressed their amazement at the highly mechanized and intelligent equipment in the workshop. "The technological development on display here serves as a reminder of the fact that technology is under continuous development and is likely to undergo even more profound iterations in the future. In the punching workshop, only three human operators are required while industrial robotic arms are operating in the welding and painting areas without human presence at all. This can help us gain a deeper insight into the trend that is unfolding,” said Einar Hans Tangen, an expert in political and international affairs from the USA. “In the process of development, these enterprises will integrate their ideas of rapid development with the market and the business scale. Xi'an, an ancient Chinese capital known for its profound cultural heritage, now enjoys the reputation as a high-tech city."
In the global race of technological innovation, XHTZ, while pursuing its own agenda of R&D and innovation, has committed tremendous resources to carving out its own unique track of development by identifying and capturing emerging global trends and bench-marking against global best practices. "Essentially, today's global competition is a competition for science and technology. If China can outperform others, it will inevitably keep the 'economic engine' humming. This will provide solutions to a whole slew of problems facing not only China itself, but also the global community at large," said Einar Hans Tangen.
