Chongqing Yuzhong Shibati Street: New Chongqing in Old Street Block

There are two pedestrian streets in Chongqing, one is Liberation Monument Pedestrian Street, well-known to the public, the other is Shibati Street, near the Liberation Monument.

Shibati Street in 1980s was full of atmosphere of old Chongqing. One could see the every day life of local people here. Nowadays, surrounded by sky-scrapers and many modern facilities, Shibati looks rather old and shabby, and has been gradually forgotten by citizens.

On May 18th, 2015, Chongqing government approved the plan for traditional area protection in Chongqing main city zone, and Shibati was listed into the 28 traditional areas in the city. Chen Dibing, the deputy chief of the management committee of Yuzhong historical and cultural street block said that Shibaqi would keep working on the protection of traditional areas.

The main structure construction of the first project in Shibati traditional area has been completed. In 2020, the whole Shibati traditional area will show the public its new image.
