POWERCHINA: Enhancing Intercommunication, looking forward to more cooperation with Macedonia

Miladinovci-Stip motorway, already in use, Kicevo-Ohrid motorway project, still ongoing and Krupishte-Kocani expressway are just some of the projects currently being implemented worldwide by Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA). Our extensive international business network and strong organizational and management capabilities enable us to successfully execute projects supported by local government, the Chinese government, multilateral financial institutions, private investors, etc. In addition, POWERCHINA has implemented a total of 23 investment projects in 12 countries, including energy, transportation, mining, mergers and acquisitions, say POWERCHINA officials who visited our country these days.

Vice President  POWERCHINA Eurasia Regional Headquarters, region that includes Macedonia, Dong Juntao, told reporter that they came to Macedonia to get acquainted with the media, present the company and generally to get the sense of what is going on in NRM.

The reason for our visit is that we want to visit the motorway Miladinovci-Stip that we have constructed, as well as to see how the construction of the motorway Kicevo-Ohrid is going. We also want to become familiar with local laws, principles and environmental policies in order for our performance to be improved, Juntao says.

He adds that POWERCHINA is still interested in working in Macedonia, ie would like to be involved in the realization of infrastructure projects, such as gasification, road construction and railways, announced by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev. They would also like to collaborate with Macedonian companies, work on joint projects, and even learn from them.

Zhang Peiliang, a POWERCHINA’s Representative for North Macedonia situated in Skopje, points out that this international group, besides carrying out large infrastructure works is also involved in projects that are of great benefit for the community, ie it is socially responsible.

"Our goal is not only to profit, but also to find out what the demands of the locals are and what we can do in order the quality of our life to be improved." We want to make contribution to society, not only independently, but together with other companies as well, says Peiliang.

This international group has been present in our country since 2013 through its representative office Skopje covering 5 countries. The construction of motorways Kicevo-Ohrid, Miladinovci-Shtip and the expressway Krupishte-Kocani is realized through its subsidiary Sinohydro Corporation Limited. The company claims that in the realization of these projects the local authorities have recognized the company as a professional contractor, but also as a good friend of NRM, in whom they trust. Taking the Miladinovci-Shtip motorway into consideration, they claim that the construction is of 100 percent quality and without any accident during construction.

 In addition, POWERCHINA has strictly applied the building protocols in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations of North Macedonia, introducing an environmental management system, said representative from the company.

They also gave examples when during the construction they were involved in various activities to help residents. Thus, they have always responded to calls from the authorities when help was required because of flood, disaster relief for the population, building roads for the local community, providing equipment for local sports activities and so on. As a result, in October 2017 and December 2018, in recognition of their social responsibility, the Mayor of Sveti Nikole presented the company with a portrait of the patron saint of the city, St. Nicholas.

In addition, the POWERCHINA representatives we interviewed claimed that in the execution of projects in our country they strictly abide by both our regulations and accepted international practices and establish a management system through which they practice honest and compliant work.
