Weinan Makes Stable Progress in Resuming Production

The municipal authorities of Weinan City, Shaanxi Province held the third press conference over the COVID-19 epidemic on February 13, giving a briefing about the local efforts to resume production while fighting the outbreak.

When answering a question about the city’s plan on advancing orderly resumption of production at local enterprises, Director Zhao Linbin of Weinan Municipal Commission of Development and Reform revealed that after the outbreak, the city has focused on stabilizing economic growth and rolled out preferential policies for local enterprises, including credit support and subsidies for the purchase of epidemic prevention and control equipment. He said priority for now is to resume operation of enterprises with a complete industrial chain.

According to Zhao, 116 industrial companies with annual revenue over 20 million yuan in the city had resumed production as of February 11 and a plan has been worked out to start and resume the construction of 217 key projects in the city before the end of March.

He also confirmed that five pharmaceutical enterprises in Weinan have resumed or planned to resume operation and after they work at full capacity, the city will produce 180,000 surgical masks, 80,000 N95 masks and 1,100 protective suits a day, enough to ensure sufficient supply in the city.

Meantime, Deputy Director Zhang Hongyi of the Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs predicted a bumper year for agriculture in the city, citing positive momentum in the summer grain production.

Weinan, a major grain producer in Shaanxi, ranks first in the province in wheat growing areas and yields.

Annually, it produces around 1.1 million tons of wheat.

Latest information shows its over 280,000 hectares of wheat are growing well, indicating a harvest this year.
