From July 7 to July 16, 2019, the 6th "Gender Equality for a Better World" International Youth Action · Beijing 2019 was successful held in Beijing. The event was co-sponsored by Beijing Women's Federation and Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, and co-organized by Beijing Women's International Center, Women's Federation of Chaoyang District, Beijing Municipality and Beijing International Chinese College. About 30 international youth volunteers from 9 countries including Nepal, Pakistan, Tanzania, Mongolia, the United States, Laos, Hungary, Costa Rica and China participated in the event.
During the ten-day volunteer event, international volunteers attended the lectures given by Chinese and international experts in the field of gender equality, learned knowledge about gender equality; visited the Museum of Chinese Women and Children, China Women's University and Beijing Qiushi Vocational School to spread the concept of gender equality; carried out the gender equality "workshop" exchange activity, deepened the understanding of women and children's undertakings; visited Zhicheng Public Welfare Law Firm to discuss women's rights and interests protection measures; entered community families in Chaoyang District to exchange family culture of various countries; provided services at Beijing Chenguang Cerebral Palsy Children's Rehabilitation Center to send care and love to children; ascended to Badaling Great Wall to publicize gender equality concept and natural heritage protection knowledge to tourists around the world; visited China Folk Art Experience Hall to follow Beijing Smart Lady and learn traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, and experienced the essence for the production of "circular fan"… Through a series of activities, volunteers communicated with each other, and devoted to realizing gender equality and the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. Based in Beijing, where the 4th World Women's Congress of the United Nations was held, they learned about the development of women and children's undertakings in Beijing, deepened their awareness of safeguarding women and children's rights and interests, and protected and inherited traditional culture by providing volunteer services for women and children in Beijing.
Yin Na, Vice President of Beijing Women's Federation, delivered a speech on behalf of the sponsor at the closing ceremony. She said that as an international exchange brand activity that focuses on the rights and interests of women and children, the International Youth Action · Beijing called on young people to jointly promote the gender equality and sustainable development goals of the United Nations. She called on volunteers from all over the world to encourage more young people to participate in the cause of gender equality, start from themselves and become a leader, inherit and carry forward the spirit of the World Women's Congress 1995 and the World Conference on Women, so as to jointly promote gender equality and build a better world for all!
Volunteers shared their views on voluntary action and gender equality from different perspectives, through various means, such as group presentation, presentation of questionnaire research results, and talent performance. Youth volunteers from all over the world expressed that they have benefited a lot from this tour, and they would set a role model to mobilize other people to jointly promote gender equality after returning home. Meanwhile, they would like to actively act as friendly ambassadors to promote cultural exchanges between China and other countries, so as to strive to build a Community of Shared Future for Mankind. Lu Yamin (Deputy Head of the Liaison Department of All-China Women's Federation), Yin Na (Vice Chairman of Beijing Women's Federation) and heads of Beijing Women's International Center, Women's Federation of Chaoyang District, Beijing International Chinese College and other relevant organizations issued volunteer certificates for Chinese and foreign youth volunteers who participated in the event.
Since 2014, the International Youth Action · Beijing event has been held for six years, with a total of more than 100 Chinese and foreign volunteers and thousands of young people from 35 countries participating in the event. Zhicheng Public Welfare Law Firm, China Women's University, Beijing Qiushi Vocational School, Chinese Folk Art Experience Hall, Badaling Great Wall Special Zone Office and other institutions have provided vigorous support for this event.
