The paper gives the advances of live tissue imaging in molecular and tissue modeling techniques in the last decade and summarizes the most powerful and widely adapted imaging tools and adjunct technologies, which are organized based on the necessary field of view: whole body, organs, tissues, or sub-cellular compartments. It provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the art imaging techniques available and their tradeoffs, applications, and future directions that will further empower scientific discovery.

Huang Qiang cooperated with the professor of Duke University Shen Xiling and they elaborated on the major research technologies and the latest development of live tissue imaging in the report The Frontier of Live Tissue Imaging across Space and Time on Cell Stem Cell. The research report has shown in detail the advantages and disadvantages of each imaging method and where they could be applied, especially the research into various organ systems, organoids and stem cells. Moreover, it provides a guide for selection of technologies and techniques to explore any given hypothesis based on specific needs.
Huang Qiang is the first author of the paper. Aliesha Garrett and Shree Bose, PhD students at Duke University, are the co-first authors. Shen Xiling, adjunct professor of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University and professor of Duke University, is the corresponding author. The Department of Pediatric Surgery, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University is the first undersigned unit of this essay. The research work has been supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology New Star, Shaanxi Provincial Key Research and Development Program and other projects.
