Tasting Huaiyang Cuisine along the Canal in Huai'an: A View from Huai'an Li Canal Cultural Corridor

With the total length of 32km, Li Canal features beautiful scenery and multiple tourism attractions. For Huai'an people, Li Canal is both the mother river and a cultural symbol. Hundreds of cultural relics protected at national, provincial and municipal levels in Huai'an bear the millennium canal culture and witness the prosperous water transport.

Huai'an Li Canal Cultural Corridor is located at the intersection of Weibei Road and Yuehe Street in Qingjiangpu district in Huai'an City. It starts from Dazhakou ("大闸口") in the north and ends at Tangzi Alley (堂子巷") in the south. The Corridor is divided into four sections, namely "starting", "developing", "transferring" and "ending". There are several sites of water transport wharfs left from Ming-Qing dynasty and numerous scenic spots including the Huai'an Canal Museum Group, Ciyun Temple and Guoshi Tower, etc.

Strolling in the Qingjiangpu Scenic Area of the Li Canal Cultural Corridor, tourists can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the canal and the cultural charm of the historic sites. Cultural relics such as Qingjiang Floodgate, the Memorial Temple of Chen Xuan and Pan Jixun, the Ancestral Temple of Wu Family and Doumu Palace enrich the culture of this city of canals with solemnity.

The body of Li Canal and the soul of canal culture jointly forms today's Li Canal Scenic Spot. As an area of canal cultural tourism, it contains the historical and cultural charm of Huai'an featuring water scenery and historic sites.
