Hello World! This is Seven-mile-long Shantang of Suzhou!

In ancient times, Suzhou had a total of eight city gates, among which Changmen Gate was particularly renowned. The convergence of Shantang River, the outer city moat, and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal made the vicinity of Changmen Gate one of the most prosperous areas in Suzhou. Shantang Street lies merely 300 meters away from Changmen, aligning alongside the river. Described in Dream of the Red Chamber, the street spans about 7 kilometers, hence also known as "Seven-mile-long Shantang".

"Seven-mile-long Shangtang" epitomizes the essence of Suzhou as an ancient city, blending natural beauty with cultural heritage -- an embodiment of old Suzhou and a gateway into the culture of Wu, a geographical idea referring to Wu region. In 2015, it was recognized as one of the first batch of "Chinese Historical and Cultural Blocks" by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the PRC and the National Cultural Heritage Administration.

In Shantang Street, there's a Cultural Exhibition Hall dedicated to the Grand Canal heritage. Embracing the theme "Heavenly Suzhou, Living Heritage", it celebrates Suzhou's rich intangible cultural heritage, highlighting its unique cultural features across the seasons, showcasing over 100 distinct intangible cultural heritage projects.

Shantang Street is a place that beautifully preserves cultural legacies. Inside Zhenqu Garden of Yuhantang in Suzhou, the live performance titled "Dreamseeker in Shantang Street" ingeniously blends Suzhou's two UNESCO World Cultural Heritage items -- Kunqu Opera and classical gardens -- with the local Pingtan storytelling. This immersive cultural experience offers a glimpse into the poetic life of Jiangnan's water towns, inviting people to immerse themselves in its enchanting lifestyle.

Walking along the cobblestone paths of Shangtang Street feels like stepping into a painting. The morning eateries here beckon visitors to savor local delicacies. It's a delightful invitation to explore Suzhou's morning flavors and unique culinary heritage.

Throughout winter, tradition permeates the air in Shantang Street. Homemade salted and cured meats dangle from windowsills and hang at doorways. Among these culinary treasures is "Yanduxian", a hearty soup simmered with salted pork, fresh pork, Jinhua ham, and tender bamboo shoots. Its robust savory taste, creamy broth, and intense flavors encapsulate the essence of this season.
