Shi'erliancheng Village is Honored with Title of 'Hometown of China Desert Sweet Glutinous Maize'

On November 7, the awarding ceremony of the Hometown of China Desert Sweet Glutinous Maize and the China Desert Sweet Glutinous Maize Industry Development Seminar were held in Shi'erliancheng Village, Jungar Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The China Vegetable Marketing Association (CVMA) awarded the Village the title, enabling it to become the first village enjoying this fame in the country.

In the development of sweet glutinous maize industry, Shi'erliancheng Village took the opportunity of creating a national rural industrial integration and development demonstration park to build nitrogen-regulated fresh-keeping warehouses, processing parks, sorting and packaging centers, e-commerce service centers and other projects to extend and boslster the whole industry value chain. The project has formed a one-stop industry value chain of planting, processing, storage and sales. Have been selected into the national list of "Products of Fame, Features, High Quality and Freshness", the agricultural products by Shi'erliancheng Village are sold well in Beijing, Tianjin, Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing and other provinces and cities.

At the Seminar, experts discussed how to develop the maize industry in Shi'erliancheng Village with high quality and create the brand of the "Hometown of China Desert Sweet Glutinous Maize", in order to revitalize the rural areas and develop industries through feasible strategies.

Chen Mingjun, CVMA executive vice president, said that through the awarding ceremony, Shi'erliancheng Village can use the brand as a guide to enhance the maize industry, and help build an important national agricultural and livestock product base.

At present, the urban and rural maize planting area of Shi'erliancheng Village is 16,667 hectares, of which the sweet glutinous maize planting area is 1,000 hetares, with an average annual output of 50 million ears. In 2023, the production capacity of the base will reach 100 million ears, with the largest yield per unit in the country. In 2024, the planting area is expected to be 2,000 hectares, with an annual output value of CNY 300 million. The per capita income of farmers will increase by CNY 500  per hectare compared with planting ordinary maize.
