Annual Maintenance of ±800kV Shaanxi-Wuhan UHVDC Project Successfully Completed

On May 23, the annual maintenance for the Shaanxi-Wuhan Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) transmission project was successfully completed as its 800MW bipolar DC system returned to normal operations, providing strong support for the Central China power grid to meet the peak summer demand.

The Shaanxi-Wuha UHVDC project, officially put into operation in August 2021, serves as a "power highway" connecting clean energy between Shaanxi and Hubei provinces, and plays a critical role in China's west-to-east and north-to-south transmission programs. To date, the northern Shaanxi converter station has operated safely for 1,043 days, delivering over 48.34 billion kWh of electricity to Wuhan.

During the annual maintenance, 671 personnel from 22 inspection organizations of the northern Shaanxi converter station worked tirelessly day and night starting from May 13. Upholding the principle of "repair what needs to be repaired, do it well; test what needs to be tested, do it thoroughly," they efficiently completed all planned maintenance and testing projects. This comprehensive check of the transmission and transformation equipment has further enhanced the operational reliability of the Shaanxi-Wuhan UHVDC project.

Reportedly, this maintenance marks the first use of a maintenance decision-making platform for grounding electrode equipment status, which enables online monitoring of relevant data. This further makes maintenance more targeted and effective, improves the intrinsic safety of equipment, and enhances the intelligence of the UHV power grid.

In the future, the Ultra High Voltage Company of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Co., Ltd. will continue to promote lean operation and maintenance, and specialized maintenance construction, to fully safeguard the major transmission line for "Shaanxi Electricity into Hubei" and provide a solid guarantee for the safe and reliable operation of Shaanxi power grid and cross-regional power transmission channels.
