Recently, Liu Jianchao, a community line guard in Qiaoqiying Village, Houji Town, Zhenping County, Nanyang City, Henan Province, discovered construction activity within a power line corridor that posed safety risks. He immediately took photos and shared them along with the location to the local WeChat group for protecting the line. Houji Power Supply Center of the State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company promptly dispatched personnel to the site and resolved the safety hazard.

The complex operating environment of power grids in rural areas poses difficulties for inspection, maintenance, and defect elimination work. To ensure the safe, stable, and reliable use of electricity for residents, the Houji Power Supply Center has innovatively implemented the community line guard model, which enlists local residents as community line guards along the 10kV power lines. Information on power facility protection, electricity regulations, and safe electricity usage has been shared in WeChat groups, encouraging the public to actively participate in line protection.

“Since the peak season this summer, community line guards have helped address over 300 potential hazards and defects, making a significant contribution to the safe and stable operation of the power grid,” said Wang Yu, Deputy Director of the Houji Power Supply Center.

Currently, the community line guard model has been widely adopted across community-level power supply centers under the State Grid Nanyang Power Supply Company. Nanyang City has established more than 3,600 WeChat groups for power supply services, with over 10,000 people participating in line protection. A culture of valuing and protecting power lines has gradually developed in local rural areas, effectively improving the safety and stability of the power grid’s operation.
