Tianmen, Hubei: Energy Revolution Powers a "Green Spring Festival"

As one of the first rural energy revolution pilot counties in China, Tianmen City in Hubei Province has increasingly incorporated green elements into the daily lives of its residents. During the 2025 Spring Festival holiday, the city set a new green and low-carbon trend.

In Chen Zhou Village, located in Duoxiang Town, Tianmen, every household hangs up bacon and fish, adding flavour to the festive atmosphere. This year, the bacon fish people prepared for the holiday all come from the Shenhu Fishery Ecological Industrial Park, where the photovoltaic fish ponds have enjoyed a bumper harvest. The locals' Spring Festival now features an added “green value” with these sustainable products.

The fish farming contractor, Ge Haibing, stated that he has leased 200 mu (approximately 13.3 hectares) of photovoltaic fish ponds. With lower pond density, higher economic benefits, and reduced leasing costs, these bountiful fish ponds have made for a warm Spring Festival.

"I was the first resident in Chen Zhou Village to install photovoltaic panels. After installation, I switched all my household appliances to electric-powered ones. We now use 'green electricity' for laundry and cooking, which is both energy-saving and environmentally friendly," said Chen Zhou Village resident Xiong Sijiao with delight.

According to Hu Yang, Deputy Director of the Industrial Park Power Supply Office at the State Grid Tianmen Power Supply Company, the company invested in the construction of an integrated photovoltaic-storage-charging station in 2024. The solar panels on the parking lot canopy convert sunlight into electricity, which is stored and later used to charge new energy vehicles, ensuring a full low-carbon and eco-friendly process. Currently, Duoxiang Town has installed a total of 27 charging piles, including 10 integrated photovoltaic-storage-charging units, forming a charging service network within a 3-kilometer radius.

Since 2024, Tianmen City has designated Duoxiang Town as a pilot demonstration area to lead the development of a "zero-carbon town." The town has now achieved a 70% long-duration green power supply, with renewable energy an integral part of residents' daily lives.
