According to data from Maoyan Professional Edition, the box office revenue of Ningbo's 2025 Spring Festival film season (from January 28 to February 4) reached 988.443 million yuan, breaking the record of 985.363 million yuan held by Ningbo's Spring Festival film season in 2021.
A representative of the Ningbo Film Association said that in recent years, with the continuous upgrading of citizens' demands in cultural consumption, watching movies has gradually become an indispensable new custom for Ningbo people during the Spring Festival.
"During the Spring Festival, the attendance of prime-time screenings in cinemas was as high as 90%. Many families, with three generations together, came to watch movies, filling the cinemas with laughter and cheers," said Manager Yan from Bona International Cinema Beilun Store.
Some experts pointed out that during the Spring Festival, audiences are more inclined to choose movies that can bring joy and blessings. The themes of this year's Spring Festival films are in line with the celebration, which is about sharing warmth and expressing good wishes. These films also attracted audiences to go to the cinema to experience the festive and reunion atmosphere and appreciate the excellent traditional Chinese culture.
On the eve of the Spring Festival, Ningbo launched a film consumption subsidy policy, issuing a total of 100,000 film coupons. Citizens can enjoy a discount of 15 yuan on movie tickets priced at 15.01 yuan or more in Ningbo, and it can be used together with other movie discount coupons.
"The total value of the film consumption coupons issued this time reached 1.5 million yuan, promoting a payment amount of nearly 5.1 million yuan, with a leverage rate of 3.4 times. It has stimulated consumption while also giving real benefits to the audience," said a representative from the Literature, Art and Film section of the Publicity Department of the Ningbo Municipal Committee.
