On March 11, during a routine inspection, staff from State Grid Huai'an Power Supply Company discovered a pair of Oriental white storks nesting and incubating eggs on a tower of the 220 kV Aipai power line. To protect the birds' habitat and ensure the safety and reliable operation of the power line, the company immediately organized a team to install bird deterrent panels on the tower.
Oriental white storks Nesting on Power Towers
In recent years, enhanced environmental protection efforts across society have provided better living conditions for endangered wildlife. With the increase in wild bird populations, more birds are nesting on power transmission towers, posing a potential threat to power line insulation. During the breeding season of Oriental white storks, State Grid Huai'an Power Supply Company launched a special spring campaign to protect them. The company organized comprehensive inspections to accurately identify nesting sites and installed bird deterrent panels to improve line insulation. This not only reduces the impact of bird activity on power lines but also minimizes the risk of electrocution for birds.

The 220 kV Aipai line connects the 220 kV Aikou Substation to the 220 kV Paifang Substation, supplying power to key transportation hubs such as the Huai'an Lianshui High-Speed Railway Station and industrial enterprises in the Huai'an Economic and Technological Development Zone. It is a vital power transmission route supporting the city's economic and social development. The installation of bird deterrent panels not only enhances the safety and reliability of the power line but also protects the birds' habitat, achieving a harmonious coexistence between power infrastructure and the natural ecosystem.
